And we’re off! (And AR wins the World Cup)

We’ve made it! After far too many hours on airplanes we have arrived in South America to begin our adventure. Seems so surreal but we are ready to get this adventure underway.

In an attempt to travel light, we’ve packed everything for 3 months in 3 backpacks: Sunny “agreed” to do the heavy lifting since I (Becky) did all the planning. A match made in heaven!

On our way to country #1, Argentina, we had an extended layover in Brazil, so got a sneak preview of some favorite treats like brigaderous, pao do queijo, and others. We’re excited to come back here further into the trip to delight our tastebuds!

We met up with Becky’s parents in Buenos Aires shortly after and did a bit of touring, including a theater turned library and an ancient tree in the city park. We will be back in this city but continued on to Patagonia, specifically a resort called Bahia Bustamante.

This resort is a nature lover’s paradise on the crystal blue ocean in northern Patagonia. Surrounded by the Argentine steppe it is an oasis of peace that used to be a seaweed gathering town of 400 people. Now the most important rule is to never block the ocean view! As we’re here a few days I’ll post more soon.

Despite the blissful peace and break from technology, we did have to participate in watching the nail-biting game between France and our host country Argentina. The atmosphere for all the guests and staff was electric and the win prompted several people to run into the ocean in celebration, including Sunny! The owner said now we must come for every world cup (to fit local futbol superstition) and I can’t say I would mind with the beauty and relaxing scenery combined with the friendly and welcoming people we’ve met so far.
